As promised…

The video for the Hera song that features, from about two thirds of the way through onwards…Jenny’s father! In case you were not able to work this out for yourself, he is the older man with the beard and the red bow tie!

I still can’t remember how he came to have the opportunity to be in the video, or WHY he’s even relevant to the video. All the other things (puppies, kittens, shoes made out of bread (!?), wine, baths etc) are apparently things that feel good, but where a man with a beard comes into the equation…who knows!?

It amuses me though, and if it amuses you, please visit Jenny and tell her too!

In other news, no, I have not given up on Project 365, I am still diligently taking photos every day, I just haven’t been able to upload them yet. I’m not able to say much about WHY I can’t upload them, but I will say that some of my friends on “real life” also follow this project (on Flickr, Facebook and on here) and some of the more recent photos would give something away which isn’t supposed to be given away yet! Heheh!

A song I like…

I really like this song. It’s called Makebelieve Girl and is sung by a 22 year old Icelandic singer named Hera. I’m not sure WHY I like it so much, I just do. It’s catchy, and I like her accent.

I remember seeing her perform this at the Arts Center (She’s based in Christchurch now) early last year, and I really liked it then, and made a mental note to find out the title when I got home, but I forgot, and only thought about it again tonight when I found the video on Youtube.

The reason I was looking at Hera’s music videos on Youtube is because it has transpired that Jenny’s father has recently appeared in one! I don’t recall exactly how he managed to become involved, but he did!

I will post the link to that video in tomorrow’s blog. I was going to post it today, but I wanted to check that he didn’t mind first, and by the time I heard back, I’d already started making this one.

What would you do with your life!?

Tonight there was an item on the nightly current affairs program about nuns. The Dominican Sisters of Wanganui were featured because two new people, who were 19 and 20 years old, had recently joined their order.

When I’ve thought of nuns, the first thing that has sprung to my mind has always been either Whoopi Goldberg, or The Sound of Music! I had never thought that people my age, living in the same country as I do, might have any desire to abandon any sort of “normal” life, and go and live in a convent with a bunch of other women!

One thing I did think about is whether they will eventually regret making such a huge decision like this when they’re still really young. One girl (the one on the right in the photo, I think) said that she’d always wanted to have children – and obviously that’s something she’ll be giving up…so I can’t help but wonder how she’ll feel in 10 or 20 years…

Mind you, I suppose they’re always free to leave if they want to, right? Maria von Trapp did, and eventually got married!

For any Christians reading this, have you ever considered becoming a nun (or a monk)?

Someone you should visit…

If you’ve been reading this blog for awhile you’ve probably noticed a few passing references to a friend of mine by the name of Jenny. We went to high school together and we also go to the same university now, so we see quite a lot of each other, and have rather a lot in common.

She’s known about this blog for awhile, but I’m not sure how frequently she reads it, probably only when I point something out to her, since otherwise it’s not really her thing, and she knows me so well anyway that nothing I write about is really newsworthy.

Recently, however, she has started up a blog of her own! It’s slightly different to mine in that it’s not weighed down by cute little animations and drowning in pink, instead it’s a place for her to, and I quote, “politely disagree with the world”.

I’m sure as she gets going there’ll be all sorts of stuff on there, but her most recent entry focuses on the somewhat questionable advice provided to a teenage girl by a fundamentalist Christian magazine, with regard to the topic of premarital sex.

Before you write it off as something long-winded, dreary, and boring, I assure you it is not. She’s intelligent, a pretty good writer, and also rather witty, so it’s definitely worth reading!

VISIT JENNY HERE!

If you do visit, please leave her a comment, she’d really appreciate it, and even though she disagrees with a lot of things, so far as I’m aware – she doesn’t bite!

In other news, I think I have finally solved my problem! I engaged in some strategic deletion of files! I know deleting things randomly doesn’t normally sound like it’s going to end well, but in this situation, it seems that it has solved my problem! The files I deleted were entitled page.php and single.php, so obviously that’s where the problem was located! Oh well, hopefully everything is as it should be now!

A new theme! Sort of.

Yay! A new theme…for Valentine’s Day!

I didn’t really want to put this one up yet, at least not until it’s coded properly, but since I’m at a complete loss for how to fix the problems I am having, I have resorted to posting the message quoted below on every single message board I have ever joined! I’ve described the problems and referred people here to see them for themselves if they like, so obviously I have to have the theme available!

I’m just in the process of putting up a new layout on my website. When you view the main page of it (where the blog is) everything looks fine, but as soon as you click the comment link, or any of the links on my sidebar (”Holly”, “Site” etc), everything screws up.

The sidebar becomes disaligned and down below the content area, and on the comment page the comments end up where the sidebar is supposed to be, the header image disappears and the sidebar almost vanishes completely.

I have absolutely no clue what is going on, and it’s becoming extremely frustrating. :/

Please be aware the the comment form is affected by the glitches, so if you try to post a comment you may encounter some difficulties! o.O
