The Busy Life of Holly

No, I have not given up and abandoned this blog! I’ve just been very and extremely busy this week and haven’t had time to get around to posting!

Monday night was the tech rehearsal for the drama school production, and the first time we rehearsed in the theatre. It went pretty well, with no major incidents!

Last night (Friday) was performance night, with two shows at 5pm and 7:30pm. The 5pm one wasn’t all that great. It was ok, but it had been better in some rehearsals. Quite a few kids forgot their blocking and/or lines and had to be prompted by Felicity or I. The 7:30pm one was MUCH better, and pretty much flawless!

After "my" class had performed I stayed in the theatre to watch the other, older students do their play, and, much to my amusement, they took the opportunity to alter some of their lines at the last minute (I think. I’m not sure if it had been rehearsed, because that class has a different tutor, but it looked spontaneous) to make fun of the head of the drama school!

The show they were performing had something in it that referenced boggarts in HP, the things that turn into whatever you’re the most afraid of. Three kids were in this scene, and the first one goes "Argh! Snakes!’; then "Argh! Spiders!" then; "Argh! Felicity!". She was sitting next to me in the audience and was almost in tears from laughing so much! I was like "I’m guessing you didn’t know that was in there then!" and she was like "No! But I’ll get them! Just wait!" LMAO! I don’t know what she did to them though, I didn’t see! :(

Even though I wasn’t originally supposed to, I ended up going back tonight and doing front of house stuff for the second three groups of kids performing, which was actually quite a lot of fun. :)

So now I’m done with drama school. On one hand it’ll be kind of nice to have my Monday nights back again, but on the other hand, I’m going to miss it rather a lot! I’ve gotten quite attached to it! :(

In other news, it was Jenny‘s birthday today. She’s now OLD, like me! Hahah!

21 things that make me smile

Rather than doing a whole big birthday-related speel about nothing in particular, I figured I’d do a cross between one of Cristina‘s lovely bullet-point entries and Jennifer‘s Thankful Thursday posts….

  1. Getting a card from an elderly couple my mum stayed with when she went to the UK last year. They’ve never met me, but still sent one.
  2. Getting a card from my high school English teacher, who was invited but unable to come due to school camp.
  3. The Mamma Mia soundtrack, which I have been listening to constantly. *plans to buy DVD*
  4. The extremely cute cards I got from kids at work.
  5. The cake, which turned out amazingly well. The photo doesn’t do it justice.
  6. My aunt and uncle bringing their video camera.
  7. A childhood friend of mine (who is also adopted and also named Holly!) offering to do the filming so my aunt could help my mum with all the food.
  8. Brooke going to great lengths to try and get the night off work to come, and then, when she couldn’t, coming after work anyway.
  9. Some family members who don’t usually get on too well, managing to be civil and sociable together.
  10. My uncle entertaining people with his really random, bizarre poetry (actual poetry, that he’s published in books, not just drunken ramblings or anything, lmao)
  11. Instead of formal speeches, LOTS of people saying funny, memorable things and stories about me, some of which I’d either forgotten about or never heard before! All of which are on video!
  12. One comment in particular (Brooke!) which was supposed to be a joke about something that happened to me several years ago GOING STRAIGHT OVER MY HEAD! I didn’t realise what she was referring to until she told me afterwards! Obscurity WIN…or humour FAIL!?
  13. My father finally having something complimentary to say about one of my friends who he never used to like.
  14. Another childhood friend taking loads of photos on her camera, most of which turned out better than my own!
  15. Having my impressive feat of blowing 21 candles out in one breath captured on video. *takes bow*
  16. Being able to remember who gave me what gift so I can avoid embarrassing (humorous!) errors in thank you notes.
  17. My friends and I waiting until most of the other guests had left and then deciding to make up "Karaoke for the Deaf" for various Mamma Mia songs. Inappropriate Party Guest. Is Inappropriate. WIN.
  18. Still having most of the cake left.
  19. Discovering that the decorative tray the cake came on is screaming out to be turned into some kind of artistic canvas.
  20. Having completed another 2 of my 101 in 1001 by having this party.
  21. Having tons of stuff (too much?) to scrapbook.

Angry Man again…and an EPIC FAIL.

Today was the first day (well, second day really, but I don’t have class on Mondays) of the new term of uni.

Of course, along with the start of uni comes the start of classes, and along with the start of classes comes…Angry Man. Brilliant. When I arrived for class I was slightly early, and didn’t want to go into the room if he was there, since having to sit and listen to him prattling on for however long it took for someone else to come in wasn’t my ideal way to spend a Tuesday morning! This resulted in my going up to the room and peering in both the front and back doors and the side windows to be absolutely sure he wasn’t lurking anywhere nearby! :P

As it turned out, he came in not that much longer after I did anyway, sat down in the row in front of me, and proceeded to inform nobody in particular (several people were nearby, but were all trying to look suitably busy) about how he had to ring his own cellphone to find it, because he had hidden it on the top of the fridge!? After he’d finished talking about that, he turned to me and started telling me about how there are three Japanese alphabets. What in the world that had to do with anything else going on in his head, I have no idea!

Anyway, aside from Angry Man, I was highly amused by this EPIC FAIL this morning…

Sign slip leads to street name ‘red list’

NAUGHTY: Wellington City Council staff have drawn up a ‘red list’ of possibly naughty road names after a spelling blooper saw a city street sign become a national laughing stock.

A blooper that saw a misspelled Wellington street sign become a national laughing stock has resulted in city council staff drawing up a "red list" of possibly naughty street names. Residents of the suburb of Highbury managed to see the funny side when a new footpath sign for Old Bullock Rd was erected, mistakenly calling it Old Bollock Rd.

Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean said the error was astounding, but feedback had indicated that "everyone had a right old laugh".

"Of course we’ll change it … Clearly our proof-reading and English standards have fallen here."

Mr MacLean said a couple of people, including residents of the wrongly named street, had wanted to buy the sign. The council had opened the street directory and done an "informal check" of street names that could be easily altered by the misplacement of a a few letters. They included Dorking Rd, Volga St, Wanaka St and Virginia Grove.

The embarrassing blunder came less than a year after a sign for Prince of Wales Park in Mt Cook turned it into Prince of Whales Park.

A Highbury resident said locals were "all for better signage for footpaths", but the name should be spelled right.

"This is a real balls-up."

Has your street/road sign ever been misspelled? Have you ever seen one that’s been vandalised to say something silly?
