Reliving my childhood

Today was my first session as a Pippin leader!

Although I originally thought my unit was only going to have six girls, it turns out that we now have ten, thanks to a few more newbies joining and a couple of existing ones bringing their friends along.

Because my unit leader wanted to recognise Chinese New Year (thanks to a big lantern display about to start up here in Christchurch, which some of the kids will probably being going to with their families) we ended up making our own lanterns.

I found this craft on the internet and initially thought it might be slightly too difficult for 5 and 6 year olds, but it turned out to be fine. The girls were more capable (and creative!) than I thought they would be. :D

Next week…grass toboganning! :D

Blue Fairy!

This is a special post for everybody who commented on here wanting to know what I was dressing up as!

The Blue Fairy. I went into a costume hire shop and saw this dress, decided I REALLY liked it, and so was delighted to discover that the Blue Fairy does indeed exist – she’s a character from Pinnochio!

What you very sadly can’t see all that well in this photo (click to enlarge it) is my extremely sparkly blue makeup. I had great fun with that, lol. It was just face paint with glitter over the top, but it matched the dress really well!

Just in case you were wondering, based on the partly visible costumes, the person on my right (Jenny!) is dressed up as Brennan from Bones, and the person on my left is a bug (ladybug). :D

My parents also went, Dad dressed as a burglar (much to the excitement of the neighbour’s dog, who went crazy barking as he walked past, he was worried someone might think he was a real burglar?!) and mum was a butterfly.

I was surprised by how much dressing up like this has made me miss doing pantomimes, where the costumes tend to be much more exciting than they will be in Oliver, where everybody plays "real" people!
