Today was my last day with the two Korean teenagers who have been studying in NZ since the end of July! A huge group of tutors and kids went out for dinner tonight and before they left they gave me cute thank you cards and took photos. For obvious reasons I’m not going to post the pictures, but here’s what the cards said..

From Miss 15…

Dear Holly,
Thanks for teaching us. We wanted to came back here because we liked New Zealand and also *name of tutoring center*, too.
I thought we much better than to speak english.
I miss you when us go back to Korea.

From Master 13…

Dear Holly.
Hello Holly I am *name*. Thanks for study I like your study. It was so excited.
Maybe my English level will grow up
I will cry a lot.
I want to see you again.
Bye
See you soon

Hmm, Monday will be very quiet, and very strange! As for the “see you soon” references, they might be coming back to New Zealand for Christmas, but nothing is definite yet and even if they do come, there’s so guarantee that I’d be teaching them again. I would try and visit them though, to see if their English level really did “grow up”!

The Young Victoria

Saw this movie with Brooke and Jenny last night. Brooke came back to Christchurch for a couple of days before she goes to the UK so the three of us went out for dinner and then wondered what was on at the movies. Turns out that this was, so we decided to go and see it.

I think Jenny was right when she said that although nothing much really HAPPENED in the film, it was still worth watching, because it was PRETTY!

I now know a good deal more about Queen Victoria than I did this time yesterday! I didn’t know that she had nine children, or that Prince Albert was only 42 when he died. I knew that he died before she did, but not that he was so young!

Near the end of the film there were some subtitles on the screen explaining what happened to the family after the time period covered by the film. They explained that after Albert’s death, Victoria laid his clothes out every day until she died at the age of 81!

Apparently I am the unromantic friend here, because I don’t think it’s especially cute or romantic, I just think it’s weird, although yes, also really sad, if it’s true!

Thought this photo was too funny NOT to post! Merrilyn and I at her mother’s 60th birthday dinner last night (on my actual birthday, haha). It would have been a good photo of us, if the man sitting opposite us hadn’t started talking to me at the vital second!
