Cinderella read through

Thursday was our first read through for Cinderella, and the first time I met most of the people in the cast, who are new to this theatre company.

It wasn’t really very exciting. All we did was introduce ourselves, confirm the rehearsal schedule and read through the whole show. As we were reading through, we also added in a few changes the directors have decided to make. Although this show is pretty good already, quite a bit of it is “kidult” humour, with a couple of references to the pantomime horse running on beer as “fuel”, and also to the step-mother needing “pills” to stay awake!

Since we’re billing this as a play for children 4+, some stuff has been changed to be less crass/potentially offensive. The horse now likes “raspberry and Coke”, and the mother takes “medicine”, as well as a few other changes. Fair enough, I suppose. I wouldn’t be too pleased if I took my small child to a pantomime and discovered several references to beer and drugs either! Not something I’d want to have to deal with unexpectedly! :/

Looking forward to getting stuck into REAL rehearsals though! :)
