Last Friday I went to get a haircut and then Jenny and I ate lunch. While we were eating, an elderly lady came over and talked to us. At first I thought this was kind of sweet, but then she leaned over veeeeery close to me, definitely in my personal space. "This is a little odd", thinks I.
She then started telling us, in great detail, how she had just been discharged from hospital, and how she’d had a roommate who had a problem with his prostate. Ok, that’s FAR more than I needed to know thanksverymuch!
But. It gets worse.
She then commented on how she could hear this man being examined, and the doctors saying things like "Do you mind if we squeeze your penis?" Oh good lord! By this time I am SERIOUSLY struggling to keep a straight face.
Eventually, Jenny and I managed to say something along the lines of "Oh dear, that’s not very good, I hope you feel better soon!" and Crazy Lady wandered off outside.
Fast forward to this afternoon. I was walking down the street (right over the road from where we were eating last week) and suddenly someone grabs my wrist.
Guess who.

Oh man you HAVE to be kidding me…
This time, her issue was a stray shopping cart which had been abandoned down the road. She said she was worried that tonight some "hoons would come along and take off in it!!"
As funny as the mental image of people riding around in a shopping cart was, I tried to be nice and said that if she phoned the supermarket, I was sure they’d send someone to come and collect it before the hoons got to it.
I then hurried away very quickly before she found something else to rant about!
I don’t know whether she recognised me, or whether she just makes a habit of rambling on to whoever she comes across, but either way, it was pretty strange!
In some ways I feel sorry for her, she might live on her own and be lonely or something, but still, I REALLY do not need to be grabbed by a stranger on the street, and I REALLY do not need to hear intimate details of somebody’s prostate exam while I’m eating my lunch!
Surely this is not just me, surely other people have experiences with crazy people too…!?
