100 Things About Me
1. I’m doing this as #13 of my 101 things in 1001 days challenge.
2. I hate wearing jeans. I hate the way they stretch and lose their shape and end up sagging in all the wrong places after only having worn them for a few hours.
3. I find inspiration for the things on this list from looking at other peoples’ lists and thinking “Hey, that applies to me too!”
4. I can’t do cartwheels or a handstand.
5. I can’t dive into a pool, despite having done swimming from the age of 4 or 5 up until age 12 or 13!
6. I played the piano from age 8 up until age 14. I was terrible. I have no musical talent, although strangely, I have recently discovered that I can sing reasonably well!
7. My very first favourite colour as a child was red.
8. I’m still friends with my childhood best friend. I’ve known her since she was 4 and I was 3!
9. I have no holes in my teeth, and never had to have braces.
10. I have a mole next to my left ear.
11. I have a chickenpox scar under my right eyebrow.
12. According to the Myers-Briggs Personality Type Indicator, I am an ISPF.
13. By the time I was 13, all 4 of my grandparents had died. I’m really jealous of people who still have theirs.
14. I can’t remember my blood type.
15. I have worn contact lenses since I was 12 years old.
16. I have really skinny hands and feet.
17. Every summer, my feet get extremely obvious tan lines from wearing jandals.
18. I bruise really easily. I often have quite large bruises on my arms and legs, yet no memory of how they got there.
19. I sincerely hope whoever I marry and have children with isn’t another only child.
20. Just before I left high school, my English teacher told me that although I was a coffee-hater then, I would begin to like it at university.
21. She was right.
22. I have lived in the same house my whole life.
23. Although it’s a fairly common occurrence for people once they graduate from university, I have no intention of moving to live overseas. This isn’t true anymore! I’m not seriously considering moving to Japan to teach ESOL in the next year or so…
24. I have no trouble staying up until 2 or 3am every morning, but getting up at 6:25am for work is a real struggle. Obviously I do not do these two things within same night!
25. I am a lot less academically intelligent and successful than people think assume am. <- That is exactly what I just wrote. No editing for humourous purposes. FAIL.
26. I love noodles and French fries.
27. I graduate from university in December ’09 and still don’t really know what I want to do with my life. I could go several different ways. There’s more than one thing I could see myself being reasonably happy doing.
28. My hair is past my waist, healthy and still growing.
29. I have no plans to cut it.
30. I like broccoli, so long as it’s not overcooked.
31. Due to the time difference between New Zealand and America, 9/11 occurred on my 14th birthday.
32. If I could play any role at all, in any play/musical, I’d choose either Meg in Little Women, Glinda in Wicked or Kate Monster/Lucy the Slut in Avenue Q. I’d also LOVE to play Pauline in Daughters of Heaven, but sadly I’m getting too old.
33. The more I think about it, the more I think the Kinsey scale could be an accurate way of evaluating sexual orientation, and that people can move up and down the scale over the course of their lifetime.
34. I am a Starbucks fan. I always look at the Bearistas, but have never actually purchased one.
35. I can’t decide whether I’d like my first child to remain an only child or not.
36. Ever since my teacher in Year 6 had one in a tank in her classroom, I have wanted an axolotl. Oh come on. It has PINK FRILLS!
37. Beer is disgusting.
38. I have never tried beer. As of September 13th 2008, I HAVE tried beer, and yes, it’s just as revolting as I thought it would be! I don’t have any moral aversion to drinking, I just don’t like most alcohol very much.
39. When I own my own home I will also own a tiny dog, whose name will be Florence. Named after Florience Vassey from Chess.
40. My idol is Stephanie J. Block. She lives in the US so I’ve never met her, but we’ve emailed each other several times. She’s an amazing performer but a strangely ordinary, normal person once you talk to (read: email) her. So normal in fact that being “star struck” by her seems like it would be unreasonable!
41. I hate winter. It means I can’t wear jandals, a skirt and a singlet like I do almost every day in summer.
42. I have never met somebody who is exactly the same as me, although, between the two of them, my two “best friends” are pretty close.
43. I have a fixation with buying matching bra and underwear sets.
44. I bit my nails as a child, but stopped really early in life (before I was a teenager, I think) and now my nails grow superfast and I often have to cut them because they’ve become impractical!
45. My favourite accent is Canadian.
46. I have recently developed a wart on the side of my middle toe on my left foot. It repulses me. Aforementioned wart seems to have disappeared as swiftly as it came. Good riddance to it.
47. When I was in Year 4 (7 or 8 years old), a child in my class was kicked in the chest by a horse and killed. I would be interested to survey everybody who was in that class as adults to find out how many of us were/are now afraid of horses.
48. I would be #1 on that list. I will go up to a fence and stand a few feet away from a horse. I will let the horse sniff me, I might even touch it, but I would never go into a paddock with one and I would certainly not ride it.
49. I know this phobia is ridiculous and illogical, and I am attempting to get over it by befriending a horse who lives in a paddock I walk past every morning on the way to work. I am bribing him/her with apples. I hope he/she does not decide to eat me instead.
50. I love Italian food, especially stuff with garlic in it, unfortunately.
51. I hated my curly hair up until I was 17.
52. I hope curliness is a dominant gene. I want curly haired children, who will definitely be discouraged from straightening their hair!
53. I hate magpies. If I see one on the lawn I won’t go outside, and if I’m about to walk past one I will cross the road to avoid it. It’s the combination of the beady eyes and the beak that does it. *shudder*
54. One of my feet is a size 9, one is an 8.5. Apparently it’s normal for most people to have one foot larger than the other though.
55. A friend of mine from high school started going grey in Year 12, at the age of 17.
56. I’m one of those people who believes that no home is ever complete without a cat.
57. I hate body hair.
58. I don’t remember the last time I cried in public, with the exception of rehearsals where it was scripted – which I was astounded that I could do!
59. I don’t like ice cream.
60. I’m pretty bad at Trivial Pursuit – even the 2007, NZ Pop Culture Edition. I suspect this is partly down to the fact that I don’t watch very much TV, or follow sports teams.
61. If there were a competition for the World’s Best Procrastinator, I would win.
62. I spent 7 years in a private, Anglican, all-girls’ high school…and came out of it the same way I went in. Agnostic. Religion makes no sense to me. At all.
63. Jenny is reading this right now.
64. Two of my very good “real life friends” have also recently started blogging. I strongly suspect they’ll be just as addicted as I am within a few months!
65. I hate breakfast.
66. I once received an email offering me a job as a childrens’ entertainer. It entailed dressing up as a fairy at birthday parties. I had to turn it down because it didn’t fit well with university and my existing job. Oh how sad I was!
67. I will use glitter and rhinestones to decorate anything I can get my hands on. Even my friends when they’re not looking!
68. In some cases I honestly believe it’s better to quit while you’re ahead.
69. In Year 12 of high school, two of my friends and I had “Couch Day” every Thursday, where we spend the free period before English class sitting on the couch outside the classroom. It soon became a tradition for my whole group of friends. We miss it dearly. We’ve been back to visit a couple of times since we left in 2005, and yes, we still sit on the couch.
70. I don’t believe in love at first sight.
71. I enjoy debating with almost anybody.
72. My favourite lollies are peppermints, closely followed by sour things and gummy things.
73. In the next year or so, I would like to have LASIK on my eyes.
74. I haven’t read the last two Harry Potter books, although I do OWN #1-6.
75. My favourite time of the year is Christmas, closely followed by my birthday.
76. I don’t like milk chocolate, only dark or white.
77. I only ever had a babysitter once as a child – in a hotel in Australia when my parents were at a conference dinner.
78. I was genuinely unimpressed by Breakfast at Tiffany’s when I finally saw it.
79. My high school sold Leavers’ rings for Year 13 students, a concept very similar to that of American “class rings”. I didn’t buy one, and I regret it. I’m definitely getting one when I graduate from uni!
80. When I was younger I wanted to be a lawyer.
81. By the time I was twenty, I had been called for jury duty twice already. My 63 year old father has been called twice in his entire life!
82. I was 15 when I had my ears pierced for the first time, and 16 for the second.
83. Many members of my father’s side of the family dislike their given first names, and instead choose to be known by their middle name. I don’t think I could ever do this, Margaret does not suit me.
84. According to many people, I look very young for my age.
85. I used to hate and fear public speaking, and talking to strangers. Now I consider myself relatively outgoing so long as the other party makes an effort too.
86. Brass bands make me laugh hysterically. I have no clue why.
87. Everybody needs to own a pen that gives people electric shocks when they click it. I have given them as gifts to so many people that I have lost count. They are better icebreakers than an family of overweight polar bears.
88. I’m not photogenic and don’t like having my photo taken. I do however, enjoy taking pictures of other people!
89. I’m a big fan of toast.
90. I wish I had green eyes.
91. The only types of sushi I like are tuna and vegetarian. I have an irrational fear of food poisoning from all the other ones, even though I don’t think I’ve ever actually had it!
92. The first thing I usually consume in the morning is Milo.
93. I get really excited when I get something good in the mail.
94. John Cleese in Fawlty Towers is possibly the funniest thing ever. However, I saw his live comedy show when he came to NZ a few years ago. He was disappointly un-funny. Also extremely tall!
95. Roughly 8 months after Steve Irwin was killed, I went swimming with stingray. It was very, very strange, but not entirely unpleasant. They feel like soft leather and are quite friendly when they think you might feed them! I would not like one as a pet however.
96. I’m currently watching the 2008 Halberg Awards on TV. It’s in the same theatre as my Year 13 high school prizegiving. I have the strangest photo of that night…which I swear I don’t remember taking. o.O
97. I like garlic bread…but I don’t like garlic breath.
98. Popcorn should never have sweet flavouring. It’s just wrong.
99. I’m watching Fawlty Towers at the moment.
100. Brooke is going to do this now!
