People Who Inspire Me

Annie Lennox established the SING Campaign to use her fame to draw attention to the AIDS pandemic in Africa.

I know there are A LOT of groups doing similar work, but the reason Annie Lennox and SING stand out to me is because she isn’t driven to do this as a result of religious beliefs. She is doing this simply because it is right, not because God or Buddha or whoever else is telling her to do "in their name".

While I am absolutely not opposed to Christian aid organisations, I love that Annie Lennox demonstrates that you don’t need religious beliefs to give you the desire to save the world.

Ann Curry makes me wish I’d studied broadcasting/journalism at university instead of sociology and education.

Not only is she insanely good looking (She’s 55!!), she’s just completely awesome.

I admire her for some of the same reasons as Annie Lennox, but also because she says (about traveling to places like Congo and Afghanistan) that although she does worry about her safety in the middle of nowhere or in warzones, she worries more about NOT going there and NOT drawing attention to things that need to be seen and heard than she does about being in danger while she’s there. :O

Oh Stephanie J. Block, you are so super cool that you are even your own category on this blog!

Really, is there anyone in the whole world who doesn’t wish they could sing like this!? Whoa.

She’s really nice too, a couple of years ago I sent her mail (the ONLY person I have ever sent fan-mail to, lol!) and, much to my surprised, I actually got a reply. It was a proper email from HER, too, not an auto response from her email account. I was excited. :)

Surely you can tell just by looking at this photo why I think Gala Darling is awesome!? Not only is she a kiwi, she has one of the most positive, cheerful and inspiring websites ever.

I was pretty sad when I recently saw on Twitter that not only had she visited Christchurch, she had also been a guest speaker at a chapel service at my old high school! If I’d known about this in time, and the service had been open to the public, I totally would have gone!

I definitely don’t agree with everything she believes in, especially not the astrology-related stuff, but I still think that this "girly, tattooed feminist" is ridiculously awesome.
