Our Monday morning adventure was a trip to Cadbury Chocolate Factory in Dunedin.

I had driven past it SO many times as a kid, but never actually gone and done a proper tour, so mum and I decided this was the time!

Unfortunately the full tour, where you go into the factory and watch them make the actual chocolate, wasn’t running on the day we went, so we did a shortened one instead.

Cameras weren’t allowed on the actual tour itself, but I did manage to take a few pictures of the visitor centre and outside afterwards.

On our tour we went up inside the giant purple silo and watched a ton of chocolate dropped down in a waterfall! It was LOUD.

Massive mountain inside the main door made out of mini Crunchie bars!

Chocolate sculptures. They were pretty cool, but I don’t think I’d have wanted to eat them!

Awesome vintage Cadbury delivery truck from the 1930s. No, I did not deliberately try to match it, but yes, I did get given free chocolate for wearing purple!

Those were all the photos I was able to take, but I am pleased I at least got a few. I’m also pleased we finally got to go, since I’d wanted to for quite awhile!

I do have to say though, overall I was disappointed. I don’t know whether this is because I’m a huge fan of Whittaker’s Chocolate, which is New Zealand made and Cadbury’s main competitor here, but although I’m pleased I went, I definitely would not go again, and don’t know that I would recommend this tour to somebody visiting Dunedin.

Both mum and I found it to be full of advertising for their brand (somewhat understandable), and also some thinly veiled negative comments about Whittakers. This was extremely uncool and unnecessary in my opinion.

That said, I’ve heard that other people enjoyed it, and the full tour might be a bit more interesting, so if you’re here, don’t skip it just because I said to – go ahead if you think it would be your thing! I just wanted to be honest about my experience. :)
