Hair

Since I cut my very long hair off and started wearing it curly every day, I completely stopped brushing it. No lie, I have not used a hairbrush on my hair for 2.5 months. I comb it of course, but only when it’s wet. If I do it when it’s dry it immediately turns into a huge fluffy mess!

I love having short, layered hair. I think it suits me MUCH better, is easier to look after and get ready in the morning, and logically, I use A LOT less hair product on it too!

I’m not particularly loyal to any one brand of hair products, but Schwarzkopf Hair Repair is what I’m using at the moment, and it’s not too bad.

I have tried some shampoos and conditioners specifically intended for curly hair, but to be really honest I don’t think there’s much of a difference – other than usually being ridiculously expensive.

Skincare

I first started using Cetaphil when I was about 14 or 15, when it was recommended to me as a stage makeup remover, since it was pretty gentle on my skin (which has a tendency to be quite dry and flaky) and after doing an 8-12 show season over two weeks and using very strong makeup remover after each of them, my face was not too happy.

Eventually I decided I liked it enough to use it all the time! I don’t have GREAT skin, but I’m lucky in that I’ve never had LOADS of acne all at the same time, even as a younger teenager, so I could be a whole lot worse off!

As well as Cetaphil, I have also recently discovered that I really like Burt’s Bees Peach and Willowbark Deep Pore Scrub. My parents gave me some in a gift pack for Christmas and now I have used it all I am thinking it might be time to buy some more!

Makeup

Until the last year or so, I actually was not a very big makeup wearer! I think this was because we were never allowed to wear it to school, so even when I left, and started university, I just never started.

I think what made me change my mind was going on teaching placements, and having to look professional and polished. It didn’t help that the first class of kids I ever taught were 12-13 year olds, and I was 22. I needed to do everything I could to establish myself as an adult and not just someone less than ten years older than they were, and wearing makeup every day seemed to help with that.

Maybelline Dream Matte Mousse is the foundation I usually use, cos it’s the only one I like that I can also find in a colour suitable for my very light skin! I use Maybelline mascara too, Define-a-Lash. I don’t have much to say about that though, other than that it’s good!

I don’t know whether this should come under Skincare or Makeup, but this is the lipbalm I use. Burt’s Bees again. It’s awesome. I love it and am very excited by the fact that once I have finished the tube I have in my purse at the moment, there is already a brand new one sitting waiting for me in the bathroom cabinet.
